Course Description:

This course will cover the evaluation, debate, and critical analysis of law and legal issues which affect individuals, their families, and communities. Students will learn about practical aspects of civil, criminal, constitutional, family, immigration, and consumer law with an orientation toward civic involvement in the local community. Field trips may be required. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.

THE PROGRAM GOALS ARE TO HELP STUDENTS GET STARTED ON THE RIGHT TRACK BY PREPARING THEM WITH THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO GET ACCEPTED INTO PRESTIGIOUS LAW SCHOOLS, AND THE ABILITY TO SUCCEED ONCE THEY BEGIN LAW SCHOOL CLASSES. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES GREATER LEVELS OF SUPPORT THROUGH FACILITY MENTORING BY LEGAL PROFESSIONALS, INTERNSHIPS, FIELD TRIPS TO LOCAL COURTS, LUNCHES WITH LOCAL JUDGES, MEETINGS WITH LAW SCHOOL ADMISSIONS REPRESENTATIVES, ASSISTANCE WITH FINANCIAL AID, AND ACADEMIC COUNSELING. THE PROGRAM AIMS TO INCREASE DIVERSITY IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION AND IS GOVERNED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA BAR ASSOCIATION.
