SOC V07 Sociological Analysis


 
Course Description:
This course offers an overview of how sociologists make systematic observations of the social world; students examine fundamental elements of empirical research and the ways in which sociologists gather, evaluate and critique social data. Sociological theory and the methods used in conducting social science research, from hypothesis development to the use of variable and analysis of collected data as well as the ethics of research, will be presented. Application of qualitative and quantitative analytic tools including logic and research design, such as survey, observational, experimental, case study, and comparative historical research will be introduced and applied. Students will actively participate in conducting studies that focus on current social issues. Prerequisites: SOC V01. Recommended Prep: SOC V02, PSY V04. Transfer credit: CSU; UC. C-ID: SOCI 120.
